Originally organized in the spring of 2021 and carried out again in 2022, Middlebury’s first hackathon, Middhacks, was hosted by the Student Government Association (SGA)’s Innovation and Technology Committee with support from the Treehouse Fund and the Innovation Hub. Faced with real and complex problems relating to the Vermont community, teams were given just 24 hours to develop nuanced solutions through code. Meanwhile, participants also had the opportunity to develop analytical and professional skills through workshops offered throughout the session. Judges selected first and second place winners from a multitude of categories such as “Best Design,” “Most Innovative,” and “Best Beginning.” Over $1000 in prize money for winners was provided by the Tree House Fund, in celebration of student successes.
